When Carmen had a passenger ride in the Mini, she could tell that the suspension was perfectly in tune and the guys had Protec coilovers fitted. The minivan sits on Supertrax wheels of size 13×7-inches all round, which look incredible with those carbon fibre wide arches, they truly compliment the wheel design and that bright yellow paint job.

Take a look inside the Mini and you will see a custom carbon fibre dashboard including door cards, a digital tacho gauge, custom shifter with custom housing, those insane metal seats with Sabelt harnesses and that full red ZCars roll cage. The Mini was built inside the garage as Chris’s house with Chris and Matt chopping up parts and making them and with help from Chris’s father, who did all the paint preparation.

The engine has also been tuned up, to push out more power with a lightened and balanced flywheel, Pro Management system and more. The engine was sourced out of a damaged Honda Civic Type-R, as the damage wasn’t near the front of the car, thus the engine being in great condition to use. Now bear in mind, that this build is already four years old now and the Mini was bought back in 2009. That’s when after searching the web and lots of talk, that a Honda Civic Type-R engine, in a classic Mini in the rear had not been done before, so the challenge was accepted. So why add a Honda Civic Type-R engine and not just do a restoration on the Mini van? Well, Chris had finished an Apprentice course, which provided him with more income and that had him and Matt start thinking about the possibilities for the Minivan. They had previously built a classic mini project in orange and had a fair few parts left, so why not build another mini project they thought. They bought the classic mini van from ebay for $1500, with only minor rust issues for the reason of building another mini project. We meet with Chris and Matt, who are the brains behind the build and find out that their passion for cars, came from their fathers who were into hot rods back in the day. The VTEC from a Type-R is one hell of an engine in the Honda Civic in itself, but to then add this to a classic mini, is just damn right awesome!Īs we arrived at the location, you can’t miss that super bright yellow paint and those lush carbon fibre wide wheel arches, with a stance that is ready for launch. Well, she didn’t exactly wet herself, but the look on her face as Chris launched the bright yellow VTEC powered Classic Mini van from 0-60mph in 4 seconds, when she wasn’t expected, was just priceless! You can see the short video clip right here.Īs we make our way to Manchester in north England, we are trying to envision just what it would feel like to sit in the passenger seat of what is a super light weight Mini, which has had a tuned up engine from a Honda Civic Type-R. It’s not everyday that your wife nearly wets her pants, going for a drive in a 200bhp+ VTEC powered 1972 classic Mini van…but today that all changed.
